Aahiri has a PhD from Rajabazar Science College under University of Calcutta and is a passionate advocate for inclusive access to healthcare for LGBTQIA+ individuals. Identifying as trans herself, Aahiri has worked with a local organization called Prantakatha to raise awareness on menstrual health & hygiene and the importance of using contraception with communities of trans women.
She has also supported data collected for LGBTQIA+ individuals below the age of 18, trying to understand their difficulties in accessing education, healthcare facilities and other basic needs. This research was published in Anandabazar patrika, a bengali newspaper and in The Times of India too. Aahiri is now pursuing a second phD from BITS Pilani in Goa.
